[ Even if it's just for a tiny drink or just to keep him company. She and Klaus have trashy TV marathons to bond over, and she and Five can bond over nightcaps. ]
[ Five smiles a little. They're all going to have to have their things to bond over and he'll be a lot slower to find a niche with his siblings than they probably will be to find them with one another, but this seems like a good start. ]
You alone? You need to be. Allison was attacked this morning. She's as good as anyone can be, all things considered, but the attack was deliberate, not random.
[ There's nothing sing-song or easy in the way he speaks, no warmth. But he sounds casual enough, matter-of-fact, a little too still for a man like Klaus. ]
Oh it doesn't work for me one bit. He needs to apologize.
[ Klaus sighs, resting his chin in his hand. ]
I know a dead guy who saw him run away, followed him all the way to his favorite sports bar to watch him celebrate his victory among like minded individuals. Lucky us, he went home not long after.
[ Five glances away from the mirror briefly, as though looking to see whether Prim's noticed him talking; his bedroom door is open because he's lost the sense of urgency to hide his calculations from her after all this time. Apparently satisfied, he looks back at the mirror and gives a facial shrug. ]
Sounds like we should pay him a visit.
[ The conversation sounds benign, Five finds himself thinking, because most people haven't ever seen Klaus in a position where he needs to defend someone he cares about. Five isn't being overt and even if Klaus was, it wouldn't sound like a legitimate threat coming from someone others are used to seeing more interested in a good time than killing some piece of shit local who thought it'd be fun to terrorize their sister.
This local picked the wrong family to try to scare, unfortunately for him. ]
[ But when isn't Klaus ready for a good time? His blood's boiling and something dark has taken root deep in his chest. It's rare, really, that this family has to deal with anything other than the casual pressures of an apocalypse, but once something gets personal?
Well, well, well. Klaus sighs, his voice lilting ever so slightly, like he's positively bored with the conversation, even though there's something intensely focused behind his eyes. ]
Unless you think the timeliness is too suspish. Discretion usually isn't my forte, but I think we both know what we're up against. What Big Brother doesn't know wont hurt him.
So long as we don't get caught. If the old man was good at anything, it was teaching us how to get rid of evidence when the situation calls for it. Give me a few minutes, I'll jump over and then we'll go.
[ Klaus can't teleport like Five, but he does happen to know when his brother is out and about, thanks to their agreement. Which may be why, when Five returns, he finds a box left on his bedside table. It's wrapped in the comics section of the newspaper, and not particularly well. Inside are reusable Keurig cups, a bag of dark roast, death wish coffee beans, and a coffee grinder.
The top of the gift itself simply has HAPPY 14TH BIRTHDAY XOXO K scribbled in sharpie across the wrapping. ]
[ Allison knows she could have probably gotten him something different than what she had already gotten him as a thank you not too long ago, but considering their little routine and the fact that Five has to rely on suppliers for his fix since he can't buy this himself, she hopes that he likes the new bottle of scotch she had picked out for him.
[ He's had a lot of time on his hands, what with being unable to really sleep and all, and it's late when he finally messages his brother. He's sleep deprived and a little manic, but who wouldn't be, right? ]
when i'm not tied to the proverbial train tracks of recovery we need to do a family training session and if you tell allison i'm awake right now i'll send every doting old dead mother to haunt your schoolboy ass faster than you can jump i gotta get better at this shit before it's too late and yes i can already hear dad saying told you so
When you're better, I wholeheartedly agree. It'd be nice if we could talk Prim into joining us, but the little pacifist that she is, best I can imagine I'll get is maybe talking her into watching us.
Either way, the four of us should absolutely get back into it and, maybe more importantly, we should teach Vanya. She didn't train with the rest of us and one can only learn so much by osmosis. I'm guessing she's going to need a lot of work. How rusty do you feel?
Relax, Number Four. Welcome to my world. All I ever hear is dad saying I told you so.
How are you two doing? I'm trying to give you space since I can't imagine Allison not hovering and you hardly need us both doing it.
well considering i got my ass handed to me by some fat guys on motorcycles you know i'm feeling great. in my defense i was able to conjure half an army after my brains got beaten out of my skull so i'll take that much as a win but getting better is on the list of priorities before someone decides to try and off someone else.
we need to teach vanya too. she and i can commiserate over our control issues together and make it a real family affair.
[ There's a prolonged delay before this message comes. It's why he texted Five instead of asked him over, allowing him the time to edit himself. ]
i'm about to lose my fucking mind because i can't sleep and every time i close my eyes fat biker sugar plums dance through my head but other than the metaphorical pillow of people pressed over my entire head i'm great. it's like when your dad dies and everyone in the neighborhood comes to offer condolences and bring a casserole, but the people never leave.
